Day 78: Lifted Luggage for Senior Citizens

This post is coming in late today because we have been traveling back from California most of the day. Traveling, while sometimes stressful with a 6 month old, offers me many different opportunities to perform random acts of kindness. This afternoon, at Midway Airport, one of those opportunities came up. While awaiting my luggage at baggage claim (it was taking FOREVER), I noticed a number of senior citizens struggling to pick up their bags off of the conveyor belt. So today, for my random act of kindness, I helped out a number of senior citizens (and a few others) by lifting their bags off for them. I think Southwest may have let some of them slide past the 50 lb. rule, but it's ok.

  1. LOL Though not a senior citizen, I am guilty of pushing not only the weight limit but also my physical limit in carrying my own bags. Thanks for doing the classic gentleman thing today in helping people who travel with unrealistic loads. :-)

  2. That's a great Random Act of Kindness! I've pulled my bag from the belt at Midway and it's not easy sometimes, especially when bigger guys are standing around me and I don't have any elbow room to leverage the bag! Southwest is notoriously bad at getting luggage onto the belt at Midway. I've waited up to 40 minutes for a bag at times! Crazy!

  5. Just loving this! I once tried to do something similar for a lady in London who looked like she was struggling. She had set her bag down and was just about ready to pick up again when I went over and asked if I could help by carrying the bag? She clearly viewed me as a risk despite my professional business attire and proceeded to beat me with a free newspaper!! I am now afraid of the elderly and vulnerable!!! Well done you :o)

  6. I KNOW they appreciated it! I'm a little senior-ish myself and I travel around with my almost 92 year old mother and I know how much it means to get help when you need it. Most people really step up when they see the opportunity.
