Day 62: Performed Household Tasks For My Mother-In-Law

The past couple of days have obviously been rough for our family. Although everyone is still in shock and saddened by the loss of my father-in-law, we have been able to hang tough by thinking of the great person he was. One of the characteristics John was most well known for was how hardworking of a man he was. He built his company from the ground up, and over the course of 30 years, made it one of the most successful businesses in the trim and upholstery industry. Although he "retired" a few years ago and moved from California to Montana, he still helped run Bascom Trim remotely and even helped launch a new company which develops eco-friendly seat covers. In addition to all of the things he did on the business side of things, he also was a hard worker around the house here in Montana. So today, for my random act, I am going to try to take some of the burden off of my mother-in-law by performing a bunch of tasks around the house that John was in charge of. Whether it is cleaning the garage or moving things around in the house, I am going to do it to hopefully make everything a little easier for Kim.

  6. I am thinking of your family and hoping for healing. How wonderful of you to offer yourself in this way, and in ways you have daily. I absolutely LOVE the concept and kind-motives behind this blog... I consider it a movement. It is inspirational to say the very least.

Sending your whole family bear hugs!

  7. This is one of those random acts that may not truly be appreciated until way after the fact - I know from experience that when a loved one dies many of the helpful things people do for you immediately after are just a blur for a while. It's later, when things have settled down and you're getting your life used to the new normal that you realize what a nice gesture all the little things really were. I'm sorry your family is going through this sad time now, but I know your random act for today will make an impact!

Btw, I couldn't help but notice the number of followers you now have on the blog (it's approaching 2000!); your random acts have made an impact that can itself almost be a random act of kindness - inspiring others!

  12. I stumbled across this blog about a week ago and thought it was one of the most uplifting things I had seen in a while. I have since found that this is one of the first things I read each morning while drinking my coffee and preparing for the day. I want to thank you for reminding me how much the little things truly make a difference. I've begun to adopt some of your ideas and include them in my day. If nothing else, it is nice to know you did at least one nice thing in your day. Keep up the great works!!!

  14. When I serve others and I'M the one in need, I find that my mood almost ALWAYS changes. Taking my mind off of my own problems and concerning myself with someone else's not only blesses them but me as well!
