Day 233: Stopped The Clot

A couple of years ago, my fraternity brothers, Steve and Danny Flanagan, lost their father due to a blood clot in his lungs.  Their father had been afflicted with a clotting disorder, and although he had gotten through previous clots, regularly visited the doctor and took blood thinners, the disorder unfortunately took his life.  DVT/PE (deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism) is a potentially fatal issue that hasn't received nearly enough attention for how serious of an issue it is.  Every single year, 100,000 people die as a result of DVT/PE, and it is something that is easily passed down through genetics.  The National Blood Clot Alliance has made it their goal to advance the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of blood clots through its support of research, public and health care provider education and advocacy.  One of the biggest fundraisers for the NBCA these past 2 years has been The Jim Flanagan Memorial Golf Outing which is put on by my fraternity brothers in honor of their father.  This year's tournament took place this past Saturday, and in a single day, they were able to amass over $7300 to go towards stopping the clot.  Unfortunately, due to previous commitments, I was unable to make it to Indianapolis for the tournament, but that won't stop me from helping the cause.  So today, for my random act of kindness, I am helping to stop the clot by making a donation in Jim Flanagan's name to the National Blood Clot Alliance.  If you would like to join me in stopping blood clots, you can donate here

  2. Ryan- I've been reading you all year and finally came up with a random act of my own. It's nothing more and nothing less than going into a store the night before school starts and praying for all the stressed out famlies I see. I posted about it in my blog this week:
