Tomorrow it begins...

So tomorrow the journey begins. My daughter is 3 months old. She is starting to become more and more aware of her surroundings every single day. As of now, she doesn't have a worry in the world and I intend to keep it that way. I also want her to appreciate what she has and strive to give back to those around her. There are a ton of people out there who have worries both big and small. I know I can't solve every problem for every person, but I am going to try to do my part. Starting tomorrow, I am embarking on a journey to make people's lives better. 2012 consists of 366 days (unless the Mayans are right, then this is all for naught). Each one of those 366 days, I will do a random act of kindness for a stranger, friend or family member. I will document each act on here. Here is where I need your help. I am a creative person, but one brain can only think of so many acts. I have plans for about a month or so, but would rather not be repetitive. Please send me a message, text or wall post on here with ideas both big and small. Also, please pass this along to everyone you know. I will be donating 10 (possibly more depending on response) cents to charity or a family in need for every like of this page, new Twitter follower (@366RandomActs), and new Facebook friend, this page gets in 2012.

  1. Every year we take our daughter to the boardwalk arcade to play games and win prizes. Then we walk on the boardwalk and she shares her prizes with random children she passes. The parents of the children are very surprised, but more importantly, my daughter feels so good about herself and loves how it makes other kids smile. Maybe you could try that as one of your acts of kindness :) Good luck. You have inspired me

  3. I would suggest a coat drive for the cold months. Another great thing I do is pay for the person behind me in line when I'm ordering at a drive thru or you could pick up somebody's tab at a restaurant. You've truly inspired me to pay it forward! Thank you so much for your generosity. Nicole Buisson

  4. Our daughter and 5 of her friends here in Georgia did something very simliar last month!! In celebration of her 10th birthday we performed 10 Random Acts of Kindness. Paying for someone's food in a fast food line, bringing our mayor flowers, cupcakes to firefighters, donations to a local homeless shelter, and animal shelter, coins in vending machines, treats for police officers and the Ronald McDonald House and our churches food pantry. I can't wait to show our children this! Please find my on Facebook- Lori Porter Denson. Would love to cheer you on!!! GREAT IDEA and you will be so blessed for your generosity!!!! Lori ( :

  5. I suggest something about books or some activity that could promote reading/literacy... say volunteer work at the local library or a book reading to youngsters. (i'm not sure if you've done something like that already as I just quickly skimmed through your posts, or already planning one.) I just love reading... I wish you the best in this endeavour!

  7. I agree with many other comments I've seen on here! Found you on blogs of note, and think that your project is fantastic!

As my (not entirely) random act of kindness, I would like to send you this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Random-Acts-Kindness-World-Nicer/dp/0091901758/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1329695763&sr=1-1 to give you ideas, or just make you smile; you've certainly done that for enough other people.

If that's ok with you, email me your postal address. You can get me on marcjbrine@hotmail.co.uk

  10. Hello,
I'm sure you didn't start this blog or the acts to be an inspiration but it looks like that is what it is growing into :)
Lately I've been making my bucket list and thanks to you and your idea following through with 366 acts of random kindness is on my list.
Thank you and brilliant job there :D

  11. Dear Ryan.

Amazing project - I'm sure you will enjoy every 366 days envolved.

I tried to get my friends on Facebook to come up with a proper translation of the saying "Random Act Of Kindness", but none - NONE replied. Sadly, but in our country even letting the single parent with a cryind child go before you in line to pay, is looked down on.

May your journey be good - I wish more would do the same, not as a project, but as a way of life.

    Yours,
    Erik

  12. Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! I'm so glad I found this.
What you are doing is lovely and I wish you all the best.
I wish I could be as generous but I unfortunately don't like people very much...but you definitely are one the better ones :)

  13. I really love this idea....I think I might join you in this one...I am thinking of adding myself to your campaign and posting my ideas on http://megatradeinvestments.blogspot.com/
Since I am a little short of days 83 days already gone and only 284 left...So I will try to find 83 people to do random acts of kindness. Lets see what happens. So our first act of kindness today is to add to your charity. At the end of the year Megatrade (www.megatradeinvestments.com) will be adding $366 to the charity that you chose. Contact us we want to help.

  14. I really like this idea. It reminds me of the "365 Days of Thank Yous" book I read about a guy who had a resolution to write a thank you note each day... and then he wrote a book about the experience! I bet you could do something similar.

But I've found for myself that it's really hard to blog every single day! How do you find the time? Even the thank you note guy would work in batches. Good for you!

As for ideas, it's only one idea, but it's how I found your blog: Leave a kind comment on a stranger's blog. This is an easy thing to do and it does immediately want to make me "pay it forward" by leaving kind comments on others' blogs. Writing a thank-you note, leaving flowers on someone's doorsteps, or any "surprise" gifts are also ideas. I'll have to look at all the ideas you've already done!

    Good luck!

  15. Excellent blog and certainly a lesson we could all learn and practice more in our lives every day.

I haven't had time to read through your entire blog but did see you're looking for suggestions. Here's just a couple:

A "job well done" to the supervisor of someone at a business you deal with. Perhaps you had to take someone to the hospital for tests and the tech was very kind. I had this recently happen with my elderly mother. When I asked the tech for her supervsiors name she immediately beacame leary. When I told her I wanted to send a note complimenting her work she was absolutely stunned. Many are so quick to send letters of complaint; it's nice to get a pat on the back.

I will also often leave my change in the snack machine at work. For example if I put in a dollar for a 75 cent snack, sometimes I'll leave the quarter in the change dispenser. I know how much I always enjoy finding that little extra money.

Buy a large bag of dog food and take it to the animal shelter. They can always use donations.

We all know someone who can use some financial help. Perhaps an anonymous card in the mail with a $20 gift card to the local grocery store. Even $10 would be helpful to someone who is struggling.

Mothers Day is coming up. Many elderly women in nursing homes have no one close by. Perhaps picking up a dozen carnations and randomly handing them out to these ladies. It could make a huge difference in their day.

If you have an elderly/disabled neighbor/friend with a pet, offer to take that pet for a walk. I'm sure they would both enjoy it!

Just a few ideas. I'm looking foward to going back and seeing what you've done and following through the rest of the year to see what you've accomplished.

I'm sure the blessings will all be yours! Keep up the great work.

  16. I have one idea..you could set up a blog hop (like the A-Z challenge) challenging people to do one act of kindness per day for an entire month and post up their act from each day.

And good luck with the rest of the acts of kindness; I really enjoy reading about them =)
